Hello! I’m Shuho Kanda from Japan. 
I’m a mathematician in training, working on my PhD at The University of Tokyo in Japan.
My main research interest lies in non-Kähler geometry and I enjoy exploring various aspects of its structure and applications.
My name in kanji (Chinese characters) is written as follows:
Meaning
Each of the four characters is pronounced in order as kan, da, shu, and ho.
Each character has its own meaning:
> Kan (
) means god
> Da (
) means rice field
Together, Kanda refers to rice fields offered to the gods.
This was the name of the place where my ancestors lived, and it eventually became our family name. Kanda is not a particularly rare family name in Japan. Incidentally, there is Kanda Station near Tokyo Station.

) means excellent
> Ho (
) means mountain peak
So Shuho can be interpreted as a beautiful mountain peak.
This is a very rare given name in Japan. The name might remind you of Mt. Fuji. I grew up in the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, where you can see Mt. Fuji clearly — it’s breathtakingly beautiful.
